There is no magic "downgrade" button for cross-gen titles

I keep seeing this sentiment online that cross-gen games on next-gen consoles will not be affected by their last-gen versions. I have seen this from both the PlayStation side (particularly with respect to Horizon 2) and Xbox side (particularly with respect to Halo Infinite). Both sides casually say 'they'll develop for next-gen and just downgrade for last-gen'. I don't think that's quite the case.

Let me first preface that I am not a game developer, but I do work on embedded hardware and deploying software on that embedded hardware as my career.

Bottlenecks in the GPU are solved by lowering resolution, frame rate, particle effects, etc. This is why multiplatform games can be scaled up graphically on PC. Better hardware = better visuals.tweakbox appvalley https://vlc.onl/
