licensing inside Aster - microsoft office

Post by lmth » Tue Sep 26, 2017 4:23 pm

Hi,

I have question about licensing for other programs inside Aster.

Example: I want to use Microsoft office which license I must buy.
Is it ok if I buy office per PC

Example:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/d ... q7ttc0k5ff

Or I must buy office 365 for every single user?

I check and both versions are working ok. But I don’t know if I am violating microsoft licence terms if I am using licence per PC and I have multiply
users working at the same time.

Has anyone have similar problem/question?

Thank you for your answer

That’s a really good question and one that comes up often with Aster setups. Technically, Microsoft’s licensing terms are based on both the number of users and the number of devices. If you're using Microsoft Office in a multi-user environment like Aster, the retail Office licenses (like Office Home & Student/Professional) are licensed per user, not per device, which means each user would need their own license.

Office 365 (now Microsoft 365) is typically a better fit for these setups because it’s more flexible each licensed user can install Office on multiple devices, but again, it's still one license per person.

So, using a single Office license for multiple Aster workstations running simultaneously could be a violation of the license terms, even if technically it works.

It’s always safest to go with Microsoft 365 per user, especially for setups where multiple people are actively using Office at the same time.

Hope that helps!
