I encounter this problem on a PC and on a laptop
I encounter this problem on a PC and on a laptop, both without SSDs, but with good specs in general (i7 8750h, 32GB RAM etc). I have a legit installation of W10 on both.
When I turn on the PC/laptop, I see a black screen for a long time (3-10 minutes, usually) before seeing the screen that requires my password (or pin or whatever). Sometimes, I see the mouse on the black screen, but that's all. Sometimes, the screen is completely black
Why is this happening? How can it be fixed besides going back to linux?

In ASTER you can send a technical report to technical support. Do this and describe your problem.

You should run a memory test using Windows Memory Diagnostic

The i7 8750h configuration is very powerful, but the lack of an SSD is the main obstacle preventing the system from reaching its full speed potential. The black screen with the mouse cursor is often due to a conflict between Windows 10 and display drivers on the slow hard drive. You should perform a clean boot or check the services that start with the system to restore the computer to a stable state.
