software not starting

Post by s3bi » Mon Mar 06, 2023 9:54 pm

hi,

I installed Aster on my workstation to share it in my whole house via 2 KVM adapters over CAT7. The system works well so far and Aster installed fine and runs almost perfectly as it's intended. However, I have problems starting up certain applications. Autodesk Fusion360 and PrusaSlicer do not start up at all. The mouse shows a short sandclock but that's all.
When I deactivate Aster and reboot both programs are running fine so you can tell for sure that Aster is causing the issue. Since both programs come from the same genre more or less (3D CAD) there could be something both programs use that doesn't work with Aster. I thought about the 3D engine but both programs use DirectX 11 but games which use it run fine as far as I can tell. Can someone help me out?

greetings

Assign all the devices that will show up in the ASTER settings together and disconnect/reconnect the XP-Pen. Restart the computer after applying the chklevel100 special setting (administrator rights are required). As it seems that issue is affecting not just the tablet driver but all drivers as well, I would be grateful if someone could figure out a solution.

You may be able to identify the root cause of the issue and find a resolution that allows you to run these applications within the Aster environment successfully.

Hi,
I’ve seen similar behavior when using Aster with apps that rely heavily on GPU features.

From my experience, programs like Fusion 360 and PrusaSlicer often don’t like being launched in “shared” GPU contexts. Even though they use DirectX 11, they also depend on hardware acceleration and certain GPU compute/OpenGL layers that Aster can virtualize or restrict differently than games.

A few things that helped in my case:

Switching the app to software/OpenGL fallback mode if the option exists.

Updating GPU drivers and disabling any “hybrid” graphics modes (forcing dedicated GPU if available).

Running the apps once as administrator while Aster is active.

It does seem like an Aster + professional 3D app compatibility issue rather than something wrong with your setup. Hopefully an update on Aster’s side fixes it, but these workarounds improved stability for me.

Good luck, and let us know if you find a solid fix!
