Re: any other multiseat program
I believe, based on hours of online research, that ibik's Aster is the front runner in this category by a huge margin. There have been some other similar solutions such as (at the time of this post):
VMware Workstation Pro and Unraid are two other products that pop up. Both are good but I don't feel that they should be directly compared to Aster because:
- Thinsoft's BeTwin - hasn't been updated since Windows 7!
- MiniFrame's SoftXpand - went out of business some time ago.
- FriendlySeats - has not been updated since Windows XP!
- Useful's Simple Desktop Virtualization - This product is no longer listed on their website.
VMware Workstation Pro and Unraid are two other products that pop up. Both are good but I don't feel that they should be directly compared to Aster because:
- Separate versions of Windows must be licensed and installed
- CPU, memory, and hard drive resources must be allocated rather than just shared
- Not stand alone applications
- Much more complex
- Much harder to install, setup, and maintain
- Don't dynamically share resources
- Run desktops in isolation
- Primary goal of these solutions is not multiseat
Re: any other multiseat program
Yeah, I ran into the same thing, most of the older multiseat options are either discontinued or stuck in the XP/Win7 era. Aster really seems to be the only one still being developed and supported. I was hoping there’d be a newer competitor by now, but so far, nothing that really compares in terms of ease of use.
